Incubator Program 2023

  • DOT from the Oko

DOT, created by Elaine Weryshko, is a project which finished its second year of the Incubator Program in 2023. DOT is the story of an ever-evolving spec through the molecular to the galactic.

A surrealist and wordless-tale that inhabits all levels of micro and mega objects, throughout 2D and 3D worlds - told with manipulated liquids, holes, geometric shapes, reflections, shadow, sticks, bags and wind. It is an experience that encapsulates the vast shades within our shared humanity, from our delightfulness to cantankerousness viewed from the distance of the stars.

Everything and Anything is either only an Explosion or a Collapse Yet everything at large remains unchangeable And yet still completely unpredictable.

  • One for Sorrow, Two for Joy

One for Sorrow, Two for Joy by Juanita Dawn is entering its second year of the Incubator Program.

It is a story about a woman who was born and raised on the Alberta Prairie in the early 1900s. Willow Mae was a spirited young soul, who spent her summers on her grandparents’ farm. She found the magic on the prairies and carried it with her throughout her life as she made unconventional choices. that ultimately shaped her life. Funny , tender and full of magic this adult puppet show will certainly pull at your heart.

In the 2023 fest, puppet artist Juanita Dawn offered a behind the scenes in-depth talk about her new magical story.

The show is a character-driven narrative told through handcrafted puppetry and original music. Juanita has brought together an exciting team of talent artists, including musician/performer Little Miss Higgins.

  • The Stories We -Write- Right

Jen Bain’s The Stories We Right finished its first year in the Incubator Program in 2023.

The show has been percolating since 2017 when Jen’s mother had a stroke and was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Since then, Jen’s days have been focussed on learning as much as she can about what she’s most passionate about, as we never know what is coming our way in this Great Mystery of Life.

Her first year presentation showed the story of walking away from self doubt using self-reflection, honesty and silliness as a guide. She hopes her journey will spark new chapter ideas in the lives of the viewers and to live for today.
